"The zip
pots™ story began when I was planting Ligustrum hedges
in the small back yard of my home in Laguna Hills, CA. After
breaking apart my eighth 5-gallon pots with a shovel and pair
of tin snips, my back was aching, my patience was failing and
my language was frightening the dog.
Frustrated and dirty, I sat on the ground and stared at the mess that I’d
created, broken plastic was everywhere and dirt was scattered over the entire
porch. My new shrubs had taken a beating and I knew there had to be a better
way.
Then it came to me; a pot that would zip down each side via two tear-away strips.
A ZIP POT™! It was amazing, I had invented and named zip pots™ in
a mere moment.
Next
through a process of trial and error I created a series of
homemade prototypes. Once I saw how well they worked I immediately
applied for a patent and set out to find a manufacturing partner
for developing the first production test models. It was challenging,
but with hard work I found one willing to assist in the development
of a prototype.
Extensive field trials wee conducted with the help of several willing nurseries
in California and Arizona. Over 30,000 zip pots™ were subjected to
field trials for a period of well over 1 year. I am proud to say that no
failures were reported in either the growing or transportation phase of the beta
test period.
